Curatorial Work & Portfolios
-
Aug 29, 2024 - Nov 29, 2024
This exhibition showcases 30-45 LGBTQIA+ artists who engage with 2-D media such as painting, drawing, collage, textiles, printmaking, etc. skewing the binary read of the gendered restroom signs and sparking a dialogue about the construction of the gender binary and safe spaces. This exhibition invites audience participation to add to the visual conversation through authoring the lower half of a restroom sign and adding it to the exhibition in hopes of presenting a spectrum of perceptions outside and in between of the gender binary.

Disability Visibility
Organizers: Brett Taylor & Becci Spruill
The Disability Visibility SGCI Themed Portfolio invited individuals that relate to/identify with disabilities (ie. through your own lived experience and/or as a caregiver, relative, social worker, etc.) to create prints that speak to their experiences with disabilities, accessibility, and cripness. Crip Theory informs this exchange, as it denies the false binary of disabled and able bodies, acknowledging that all people exist on an ever-shifting spectrum of ability. Crip theory also denies that disability has to be visible in order to be a "real" disability. Considering the 2024 SGCI conference theme, Verified by Proof, this print exchange will bring attention to the extensive community impacted by disabilities, both visible and invisible, engaging with accessibility concerns and fighting for disability justice. The exchange illustrates how disability impacts individual printmakers and establishes a community through reciprocity.
